New Paradigm Prototyping.

What New Paradigm Prototyping means to OpenEdge, and why we believe it is important.

At OpenEdge, we understand that dominant and normalised ways of thinking and functioning in our communities are a set of evolving ideas over time, sculpted by the perspectives and interests of those with authority to create ideas about the world (e.g authorised knowledge holders, decision makers, moral, spiritual and political leaders).

As such we currently find ourselves in an evolutionary lag, where somehow we have a knowing of another way, yet are bound by existing beliefs, systems and conditions implicit in the age we were raised.

Connecting our personal experience to the systemic and transforming how we understand identity and how we relate to conflict, are essential if we are working in new economics, with children, international development, prison reform, ecology, social justice, or anything in between...

By necessity, our answers must be rooted in our individual circumstances, and invented, freshly, by each of us based on who we are, what sphere of influence we are in, what trauma we have suffered, what the circumstances of our life, and therefore the possible consequences to taking bold action, might be, and what we ultimately want for ourselves and the world."
~Miki Kashtan.

What will new paradigm prototyping involve, what will we do?
  • In OpenEdge we try to understand our individual and collective selves in local and global systems through layers of questions of 'why?', until we get right down to the bottom. Only from this place can we be confident that we are reconstructing, 'how can we be instead?', with a new, different connection to Life and our lived experiences. (We call this putting our systemic goggles on!)

  • We hold ourselves and each other in compassionate curiosity, ready to collectively face and grieve the tragedy in the answers we may find to the questions 'why?'.
  • Our explorations build in personal liberation with transformation in our organisations, groups and communities. In this way we are restoring relationships personally and structurally, individually and collectively, creating new ways of organising locally and globally, based on a consciousness of interdependent needs.
  • We offer inputs to reflect, learn, explore, experience, question, research, practice, design, embody, test and compassionately critically reflect.
