For members of the Environmental Funders Network....
We extend a warm and enthusiastic invitation to EFN members on a seven-month journey where we explore how to transform entrenched structures of power and privilege within environmental philanthropy. We invite you to sign up by Friday 11th March.
At our ‘calling in’ event, we explored whether a deep shift in power and privilege within environmental philanthropy might be possible and what it may look and feel like. We have spoken with several of you since and heard about the blocks you are experiencing in your organisations and about your desire to learn from others facing similar struggles.
Those of you familiar with a compost heap know that transforming our waste into rich new soil takes patience and attention; a balance between inputting, influencing and stepping back; a commitment to not harming; a curiosity about the interdependence of living beings; a dedication to the process of decomposition, emergence and regeneration.

With inputs and support from us, this metaphor will guide our journey as we collectively explore:
- What blocks are we experiencing personally and in our organisations and networks as we undertake this vital work?
- How are the blocks affecting us and the work? What support do we need?
- What even is this transformational work, and how do we know if we are doing it or where it will lead us?
- What do we need to confront and challenge if we are to succeed?
- How can we become aware and skillful in this work, individually and collectively?
- What do we need in our composting toolshed to feed our movement going forward?
- What nourishing, interdependent possibilities could emerge?
