Thaya is the National Co-ordinator of Peace and Community Action (PCA) a local NGO in Sri Lanka. Sarri, Andy and Thaya have worked together since 2005, long before the birth of OpenEdge. At PCA, Thaya leads the delivery of a wide range of professional community-based programmes and projects which focus on showing participants the impact of using non-violence in their relationships, and supporting them to learn and practice techniques in their own lives and communities.
Thaya is an international trainer, facilitator, mediator and negotiator with expertise in conflict resolution and transformation, peace building, NonViolent Communication (NVC), reconciliation, building organisational capacity, and training on other non-violent approaches. Thaya is a leading member of the South Asia Peace Alliance (SAPA), the Alliance for Self Reliance and Peace Building (ASP), Action Asia, and the Small Arms Reductions Group (SARG).
In 2009 Thaya was awarded the International Peace Award from CESCI International, for his contributions to peacework. He was also awarded the ‘Shri’ title in 2009 from CESCI India. In 2010 Thaya was presented with the Desha Keerthy Award, and received an honorary doctorate from Sabgamugawa University, Sri Lanka for his contributions towards social change.
Thaya’s vision is to contribute towards a peaceful, united Sri Lanka, through nonviolent approaches and the sharing of capacities, skills and knowledge, with people living in trust and support of each other in an open and honest society.
